Dec. 3, 9 a.m.: A new progressive agenda

Washington Monthly offers a prescription for individual empowerment that completely contradicts the agenda of the right.

I just came across this interesting set of articles in The Washington Monthly — a quintet that may offer a direction for the left to pursue that does not get us bogged down in a discussion of big v. small government.
The idea is to re-empower the individual, but not in the way the disingenuous conservatives want to. The key is to follow the basic Green or anarchist precept that progressives, liberals, the left must be against large concentrations of power and that corporate business is the true danger on this end. Government, as I think Noam Chomsky once pointed out, is only a counterweight in the battle with the corporate world. And government has no power without an empowered individual.
