Plainsboro to launch drunken-driver effort

PLAINSBORO – Starting on Monday, township police will be taking part in a nationwide crackdown on drunken driving through Jan. 4.
At a time of year when social gatherings involving alcohol are common, officials say they hope the program will raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement.
Law-enforcement agencies participating in the "You Drink and Drive, You Lose 2005 Year End" enforcement program offer the following advice:
*If you plan to drink, choose a designated driver before going out.
*Realize before going out that every drink you have makes it more difficult to know when you’ve had too much to drink.
*Take mass transit, a taxicab or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
*Spend the night where the activity is held.
*Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
*Always buckle up – it’s the best defense against an impaired driver.
