Joseph D. Marut, 86, of Pennington died today (Monday) at Chandler Hall, Newtown, Pa.
Born in Harbourton, he was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Pennington Central High School, Class of 1938.
He owned and operated Prospect Street Liquor Store in Trenton and a service station and garage on Parkway Avenue in West Trenton.
He was a Navy veteran of WW II and served on the US Rockwell Amphibious Troop Attack Vessel. He was a member of Hopewell Valley American Legion Post 339. He had been a member of St. James R. C. Church since 1946, and was a member of the Senior Citizens. A member of the Hopewell Valley Lions Club since 1973, he received the Lions’ Melvin Jones honor award. He also was a member of the Pleasant Valley Vigilant Association.
Son of the late Jacob and Agnes Dworak Starkiewicz Marut, husband of the late Bertha A. Postrach Marut, brother of the late Louis A. Marut, John Marut, Mary Anna Hoffman Marut, Catherine Marut and Helen Marut Pica, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David J. and Christine M. Marut and Robert J. and Janet S. Marut; a daughter Cheryl F. Marut; three sisters, Hattie Marut Arch, Eleanor Marut Baker and Dorothy Marut Belza; a step-sister, Helen Payzch Larkin; three grandchildren, Jennifer R., Bryan J. and Alex C. Marut; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. James R.C. Church, 115 E. Delaware Ave., Pennington.
Burial will be in Harbourton Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, Pennington Circle.
