At Monday’s Borough Council meeting, Mayor Angelo Corradino appointed Robert J. Foley of Raritan to replace Henry Rzemieniewski as municipal judge.
Mr. Rzemieniewski became municipal judge in Manville in 1980 and served every year after except for three years during the 1980s.
He will be retiring in mid-February.
Mr. Rzemieniewski made $22,818 in Manville in 2005. Borough officials said Mr. Foley’s salary would be comparable to Mr. Rzemieniewski’s salary.
"He came highly recommended from all areas of the legal field and his philosophy on how to run a court is similar to the way I feel a judge needs to handle the individuals who appear before him," Mayor Corradino said Wednesday.
"He was recently a judge in Bridgewater and he has previous experience in all aspects of the judicial system," he added.
Mr. Foley served as Municipal Court judge in Bridgewater from 1998 to 2003.
He attended Monday’s meeting but did not comment on his new position.
