Charles Hufnagel

   PRINCETON — Charles "Chiz" Hufnagel, 53, died Saturday, Jan. 7, at his home.
   Born in Doylestown, Pa., Mr. Hufnagel lived most of his life in Stockton. He lived in Princeton for the past seven years.
   He was a graduate of South Hunterdon Regional High School.
   He was a self-employed handyman.
   Son of the late Charles M. Hufnagel and brother of the late Kenneth Hufnagel, he is survived by his mother, Geraldine Hufnagel of Flemington; a brother, Richard Hufnagel of Eagle, Colo.; a sister, Deborah Bromley of Union Township; two sons Trevor of New York City and Matthew of Pennsylvania; and one nephew, Kenneth.
   Funeral services were private and under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home in Lambertville.

Grace Werkman

   HAMILTON — Grace R. "Zoda" Werkman, 82, of Hamilton, died Monday, Jan. 9, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
   Born in Trenton, Mrs. Werkman was a longtime resident of Hamilton and a former resident of Long Beach Island.
   She previously was employed at the St. Francis Church Shop in Long Beach Island and also a member of their parish.
   She was a former member of Our Lady of Sorrows parish and a member of St. Raphael’s-Holy Angels Parish.
   She was the widow of the late Alphonse F. Zoda.
   Surviving her husband, Joseph A. Werkman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Carol Zoda of Las Vegas and Philip and Karen Zoda of Hamilton; two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Hart of Lambertville and Linda Zoda of Roebling; six grandchildren, Susanne Hart, Charles Zoda Jr., Christine LaRock and her husband, Allen, Jason Hart and his wife, Beth, Kristin Wylie and her husband, Jason, and Adam Wright; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral was held Jan. 12 from the Saul Colonial Home, Hamilton Square. A funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, Mercerville. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.

Nancy Sandor

   NEW HOPE — Nancy "Penny" Sandor, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, at home.
   Born in Lumberville, Pa. Ms. Sandor lived most of her life in Lambertville.
   She was the daughter of the late Mary and Harry Blair Sr. and sister of the late Harry Blair Jr.
   Ms. Sandor owned and operated the Tony Sarg Shop in New Hope for 18 years. When she closed it, it had been in existence for 50 years.
   She also was a real estate association broker for Coldwell Banker Hearthside. She was a partner with Fred Williamson in real estate for more than 20 years.
   She was a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania and National Associations of Real Estate, the New Hope Historical Society, the Solebury Historical Society, the Farmers Club, the Friends of the Delaware Canal and the New Hope Borough Historic and Architectural Review Board.
   Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and Dave Anderson of Alexandria, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James B. and Cindy Allen of Chadds Ford, Pa., and David B. And Shawn Sandor of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Mary Ann Blair of Wilsonville, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Rose Blair of Lambertville; and nieces and nephews, Pat and Kirk Lugar, Karen and Bruce Currie, Jeanne Blair, Tim and Val Blair, Debbie and Dennis Barba, Kathleen and Phil Delorme, Tracy Reasoner, Brook Blair and Paige and John Levitino.
   There will be no services.

Dorothy Behrens

   MONROE TOWNSHIP — Dorothy Behrens, 90, of Monroe died Tuesday, Jan 10, at Monroe Village, Monroe Township.
   Born in New York City, she lived in East Windsor before moving to Monroe in 1997.
   She was a secretary at the New York Department of Labor in New York City for 20 years, retiring in 1977.
   She was the widow of Irving Behrens, who died in 1997.
   She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Gloria Behrens of East Windsor and Franklin and Catherine Behrens of Keene, N.H.; her grandchildren, Alan Behrens of Horsham, Pa., Gary and Linda Behrens of East Windsor, Richard Behrens of Lambertville and Susan and Tony Sarowitz of Brooklyn; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Behrens.
   Funeral services were held Friday at Crabiel Memorial Funeral Home, Hightstown. Burial was in Floral Park Cemetery, Deans.

Rose Conner

   EAST AMWELL — Rose Mary Conner, 62, of East Amwell died Monday, Jan. 9, at home.
   Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of John Davis Conner Sr. of Alexandria, Va., and the late Carolyn Rose Hyatt Conner.
   She lived in Princeton from 1972 until she moved to East Amwell in 1993.
   She was a marketing consultant with American Management Association in New York City for 40 years.
   She was a 1964 graduate of Smith College.
   She was a member of the Greyhound Club of America.
   Surviving besides her father are a daughter, Karin Hagios of Yardley, Pa.; a son, John Hagios of Charlotte, Vt.; a sister, Jenny Fitzhugh of Luaby, Md.; two brothers, John Conner Jr. of Reston, Va., and W. Thomas Conner of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren, Olivia Hagios and Greta Hagios, both of Charlotte, Vt.
   Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 22, at Prallsville Mills in Stockton. The time will be announced.
   Burial was private and under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, Flemington.

Mae Jarrett

   LAMBERTVILLE — Mae Moonan Jarrett, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 12, at Neshaminy Manor Home in Warrington, Pa.
   Born in Lambertville, Mrs. Jarrett was a lifelong resident.
   She graduated from Lambertville High School.
   She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Lambertville.
   During World War II, she worked at General Motors in Trenton helping assemble aircraft.
   For a number of years, she worked for Don and Peg Hedges at the New Hope Craft Shop. For more than 25 years, she worked as a waitress at the Lambertville House and River’s Edge restaurants. In her later years, she worked for Tom Tru Corporation in Lambertville, framing silk-screened prints.
   She was the daughter of the late Christopher and Catherine Haggerty Moonan and widow of Howard E. Jarrett.
   Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Weber of New Hope; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Janet Jarrett of Americus, Ga.; four grandchildren, Lauren, Meghan and Kevin Weber, all of New Hope, and Steven Jarrett of Goose Creek, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral was held Monday from the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the church. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Susan Makara

   DELAWARE — Susan N. Makara, 46, of Delaware Township died Saturday, Jan. 14, in Buckingham, Pa.
   Born in Trenton, she came to the Lambertville-Stockton area in 1987.
   She worked in the business office of Palonis Chiropractic in Flemington.
   She was a member of the Page-Turner Book Club of Delaware Township and the Rug Hooking Guild of Flemington.
   She was active in the Delaware Township Education Foundation and the Booster Club at Hunterdon Central High School.
   She attended Rutgers University.
   She was the mother of the late Chelsea L. Makara, daughter of the late Betty and Richard H. Naylor Sr. and daughter-in-law of the late Lillian Makara.
   She is survived by her husband, Stanley J. Makara Jr.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gail and Ron Kearns of Hamilton Square and Linda and Joe Shoemaker of Lambertville; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard H. Jr. and Joan Naylor of Newtown, Pa.; her father-in-law, Stanley J. Makara Sr. of Stockton; her sister-in-law, Joanne Makara of Trenton; 10 nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew, Kaito Shoemaker of Fort Lee, N.J.
   Funeral services will be held today (Jan. 19) at 11 a.m. at the Flemington Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Islesboro, Maine.
   Calling hours will be held at the church this morning from 9 a.m. until the start of services.

Chelsea Makara

   DELAWARE — Chelsea L. Makara, 15, of Delaware Township died Saturday, Jan 14, in Buckingham, Pa.
   Born in Flemington, she was a lifelong resident of the Lambertville-Stockton area.
   An honor student at Hunterdon Central High School, she played on the varsity soccer team and the junior varsity basketball and lacrosse teams. She also played soccer for the Hunterdon Sonics.
   She was a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.
   A graduate of Delaware Township Public School, she was granted the Superintendent’s Award for the highest grade point average as well as the Social Studies Award and the Physical Education Award. She also received the Alex Emmons Award in 2003-04 for her commitment to the players and goals of the school’s basketball team.
   In 2004, she took first prize on both the local and county level and competed on the state level in the VFW’s "My Dream for America" essay competition.
   She is the daughter of the late Susan Naylor Makara and granddaughter of the late Lillian Makara and the late Betty and Richard H. Naylor Sr.
   Surviving are her father, Stanley J. Makara Jr.; her grandfather, Stanley J. Makara Sr.; her aunts and uncle, Gail Kearns of Hamilton Square, Linda Shoemaker of Lambertville, Richard H. Naylor Jr. of Newtown, Pa., and Joanne Makara of Trenton; and many cousins.
   Funeral services will be held today (Jan. 19) at 11 a.m. at the Flemington Presbyterian Church. Burial will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Islesboro, Maine.

William Welsh

   NEW HOPE — William J. Welsh, 76, died Monday, Jan. 16, at Doylestown (Pa.) Hospital.
   Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Welsh lived in Levittown, Pa., for 20 years, in Chesapeake City, Md., for 15 years and in New Hope for the past three years.
   He was a Ford car salesman for many years, working for various Philadelphia area car dealers. Most recently, he owned and operated Brantwood Video in Chesapeake City, Ms.
   He attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Lambertville.
   Mr. Welsh served in the Navy just after the end of World War II and again during the Korean Conflict.
   He was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Hoffman Welsh.
   Surviving are his wife, Jean Leinhauser Welsh; three sons, Mark Welsh of Boxford, Mass., Bill Welsh of Lawrenceville and Joe Welsh of Croydon, Pa.; two daughters, Patricia Compton of Jamison Pa., and Nancy Rochonchou of Hamilton Township; two sisters, Kathryn Carideo of Delanco, N.J., and Mary Higgins of Tuckerton, N.J.; six grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today (Jan. 19) at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Calling hours will be today from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will be private.
