Austin Riley Miller, 86, died at Stony Brook Assisted Living, Pennington, on March 28.
Born in Washington, D.C., he resided most of his life in Philadelphia, Pa., and Harvey Cedars before moving to Pennington three years ago.
He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1940, and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1947. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Miller practiced patent law for 50 years, 25 of them in his own firm. He was a member of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association and served as president in the early 1970s.
He enjoyed sailing on Barnegat Bay at Long Beach Island, skied, golfed and played tennis. He was a member of the Union League of Philadelphia bridge team.
Predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Thompson Miller, he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Jody and Greg Hill of Pennington; a son, Peter Miller and Amy Brent of West Chester, Pa.; a son Steven Scott and his wife Jacqui Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Edward A. Miller of Castine, Maine, and Robert Miller of Oxon Hill, Md.; a sister Jane Miller Robbins of Vero Beach, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren, Willow Anderson and her husband Sherman, Austin Roud, Ben, Andy and Jordan Hill, Leila, Jenna, Corey, Briana, Noah and Dillan Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Anderson.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held on April 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the Union League of Philadelphia in the Lincoln Lounge.
