James W. Courtney, 84, of Monroe, died Tuesday, May 2.
Born in Rahway, he was a lifelong resident of Monmouth Junction. Mr. Courtney retired as a painting foreman from Princeton Nursery and was currently employed for the past 20 years as a delivery man with Sieck-Wright Floral Products of Hightstown. He was a member of the South Brunswick Lions Club, having received, in April 2006,the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest award bestowed upon a Lion, for longtime humanitarian work. Mr. Courtney was also a member of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department.
His wife, Agnes Elizabeth Courtney, is deceased. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Anton Lemli of Somerset; a brother, Dr. Robert J. Courtney of Dade City, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney Lemli.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, May 5, at St. Cecilia’s R.C. Church, 10 Kingston Lane at Georges Road, Monmouth Junction. Burial followed in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Friends called Thursday, May 4, at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction.
