I am so delighted that so many people came to the history of the Allentown Library lecture on March 8. A thousand thanks go to Joan Ruddiman for all her research and for making the story so engaging.
A “thank you” also goes to the Borough Council in Allentown and to the Township Committee in Upper Freehold Township for declaring March 9 Allentown Public Library Day.
The presentation of the Congressional flag from Cub Scout Pack 180 was very sweet. Thanks also to Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian Burry, Renee Swartz of the Monmouth County Library Commission, and Judy Tolchin of the Monmouth County Library for coming to our celebration. I would also like to acknowledge the Allentown library staff — Nancy, Jo and Johanne — for making the library such a jewel of a place. And let’s not forget the library board, which works so hard to keep the doors open, and the 50th anniversary committee, which is ensuring that we celebrate all year.
We are lucky to have so many who care so much about our little library.
