Caseys overcome slow start to dominate Falcons

The team that many people think is the top offensive unit in the Shore hardly looked very dangerous through one-half of play Friday night.

However, the Red Bank Catholic Caseys came out of the break and showed their opponents from Monmouth Regional just what they’re capable of, turning a 9-3 lead into- a 42-3 victory to get to 2-0 on the year in impressive fashion.

After Monmouth Regional opened the scoring with an Edrick Alleyne field goal just 1:51 into the game, the highpowered Caseys struggled to get on track, despite responding with a 68-yard scoring drive on their next possession.

However, once they returned from the locker room, they poured on the offense, scoring 33 unanswered points, led by Mike Wilbur’s running (181 yards rushing) and Louis Bianchini’s pinpoint passing.

Before it was over, RBC had silenced its critics with another impressive performance. This team can pile on the points in a hurry; however, those who overlook the damage their defense can do are in for a surprise as well. The Caseys are far more balanced this year, and look to be one of the very best teams in the Shore.

Next up for RBC is a 0-1 Manchester team that would love to get its first win at the expense of the upstart Caseys. Game time is 7 p.m. tomorrow in Red Bank.

The remainder of the local teams, with the exception of Long Branch and Red Bank Regional, who had the week off, lost over the weekend.

Ocean Township dropped a 40-14 affair to a very good Toms River East squad, and will look to get its second win of the year tonight when the Spartans host 1-0 Freehold Borough. The Colonials beat Lakewood, 21-13, in their opener on Saturday.

27-6 contest to Asbury Park to fall to 0-2 on the young season. The good news for Shore? Tomorrow they take on Mater Dei that has struggled mightily in losing its first two games of the year. The Blue Devils should be chomping at the bit tomorrow afternoon in Middletown, anxious to avenge their shocking loss to the Seraphs a year ago. Game time is 3 p.m.

Long Branch (1-0) will travel to Lacey on Sunday to take on a Lions team that is 2-0 and is coming off an impressive 31-0 blanking of Toms River South last weekend. This will be a very stiff test for the Green Wave, as the Lions are coming off a 12-0 season and look every bit as good this year, at least through two games. Game time is 1 p.m.

Red Bank Regional will look for its first win when the Bucs travel to Matawan on Sunday night to take on the 0-2 Huskies. Game time in this one is 6 p.m.

And that leaves Monmouth Regional, who hopes to forget about its loss to RBC with a win over a good Wall team on Friday in Wall. The Crimson Knights are 2- 0 early on, having just beaten Matawan, 42-25, on Saturday. Monmouth will need a much bigger effort tomorrow afternoon if they hope to get back on the winning track. Game time is 3 p.m.
