Princeton school panel begins review of Valley Road proposals

Members of the Princeton Regional Schools Facilities Committee received plenty of homework at Friday morning’s meeting, in the form of three thick bid proposals for the study of the current and future usage of the Valley Road building.
On May 31, the committee will conduct back-to-back interviews of representatives from the three architectural firms that responded to the request for bids — Hillier Architecture of West Windsor, KSS Architects of Princeton and SSP Architectural Group of Somerville.
"Three very good firms have responded," said Michael Mostoller, school board president and Facilities Committee chairman.
The proposals were requested to investigate low-cost improvements that might be made to the building, and to consider ways to generate revenue from the ample vacant space in the facility. A board resolution in January granting permission to seek bids for the study emphasized the importance of considering the community’s needs with respect to the building, which once housed the Princeton Township municipal offices.
After evaluating the proposals and conducting interviews, the committee will decide on its next steps. Options include selecting one of the three bids or putting out a request for more proposals, Mr. Mostoller said.
