This year’s Memorial Day Parade, which will include 20 different groups participating, will be held at 1 p.m. May 28.
The parade will start on Dukes Parkway and will turn onto North Main Street. The parade will continue along South Main Street and turn right onto Roosevelt Avenue and then make another right onto South Sixth Avenue.
The parade will end at VFW Post 2290, where there will be a ceremony and buffet for all the marchers, and hot dogs and ice cream for the kids.
The grand marshal of the parade, 84-year-old Mike Babinski, will ride in a car near the front of the parade, according to Parade Chairman and future VFW Commander Fred Gorbatuk. Mr. Gorbatuk noted Mr. Babinski is a member of "the Greatest Generation" a WWII veteran.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be marching in the parade, along with men and women from American Legion Post 304 and its auxiliaries, the sons of the American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary. The fire and rescue squads and the Manville High marching band will also participate in the parade, playing patriotic tunes as the parade passes along the parade route.
"We’re going to have around 20 units," said Mr. Gorbatuk. "About 200 to 250 people in total."
Any veteran who is not a member of the VFW or American Legion but would like to participate in the parade may reach Mr. Gorbatuk at 526-8467.
