Stockton School referendum approved

Stockton voters granted the Board of Education approval Tuesday night to spend $542,306 to repair the three-room Stockton School on Route 29.
The vote was 124-51, including five absentee ballots, 4 yes and 1 no.
Needed repairs include the foundation, clapboard siding, ramps and stairs. Inside, a deteriorating brick chimney weeds to be removed, attic walls need strengthening and a mechanical room wall needs repair.
With voter approval and borough receipt of an anticipated state reimbursement of $292,306 plus an expected $250,000 grant from N.J. Historic Trust, the owner of a house assessed at the borough average of $166,433 would pay about $64 more in property tax.
