LEF fundraiser

has much support
To the editor:
   This past Saturday evening, the Lambertville Area Education Foundation held its third annual wine-tasting fundraising event at the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad banquet hall.
   On behalf of the LEF, I would like to thank the many members of our community for coming out and supporting our efforts to raise funds so we may continue to help to enrich the public education experience of the children who attend Lambertville Public School, South Hunterdon Regional High School, Stockton Borough School and West Amwell Elementary School.
   Events like this not only serve a good cause, but also provide an opportunity to have our wonderful sense of community reaffirmed. The banquet hall was transformed into a very cozy autumn atmosphere thanks to Tony Szwed Inc. for his donation of ornamental pepper and colius plants and Ed and Debbie Closson of the Homestead Farm Market, who graciously provided gourds and Native American corn.
   I also want to thank Nora Lewis, Walker’s Liquors and Fiddleheads for generously donating the exceptional door prizes, Rick’s Restaurant for the delectable food, Phil Faherty of Walker’s Wine and Liquor for sponsoring the event, and, of course, our friends at the Lambertville squad, who couldn’t have been any more helpful and cooperative.
   We are very grateful to all of you for providing the LEF with the resources to serve our community’s children.

Inn owner offers

job interviews
To the editor:
   I am writing in support of and in response to a letter from Harry Shultz of New Hope.
   He voiced an opinion of the hiring practices of the new Superfresh store to open in the Clemens Market location in New Hope.
   Apparently, there were very few positions available to the 65 former Clemens employees who are now out of work. Having been a regular customer of the Clemens Market, I became familiar with several of the employees and always found them to be courteous, friendly and helpful and am sorry to hear so many have not been rehired by the new management.
   I have spent almost 30 years in the hospitality industry and know the importance of good, loyal employees and how they contribute to the success of any business. In addition, the employment of seniors and those with special needs provide an added service to the community.
   It is a policy Clemens Market can be proud of and one we at the Lambertville Station and Inn have practiced for many years.
   It would be my pleasure to personally interview any former Clemens employee who has been displaced and is seeking employment. The restaurant industry is serviced by a wide variety of positions, including kitchen staff, food servers, bus persons and food runners. There are positions available in the restaurant as well as the inn, banquet facility and conference center.
