Marguerite Stotter Lothstein, 90, died Friday at her residence in Hopewell Township.
Born in Jersey City and raised in South River, she was a former resident of New Brunswick, Union and Manalapan.
She was a graduate of South River High School and the New Jersey College for Women (later Douglass College), where she majored in chemistry and minored in physics. Shortly around graduation, while at Lakehurst Military Base, she was a witness to the Hindenburg disaster. During World War II, she went to work for Mack Manufacturing in New Brunswick as a metallurgist in the production of tanks for the U.S. Armed Forces.
Later in life, she returned to Newark State College (Keane) to earn a degree in teaching, after which she taught at Connecticut Farms School and finished up her teaching career at Solomon Shechter Jewish Day School, both in Union. Upon retiring in 1978, she and her husband moved to Manalapan.
Ms. Lothstein was a lifetime member of Deborah and Hadassah.
Daughter of the late Leo and Kate Stotter and sister of the late Belle Gottlieb and Meyer Stotter, she was predeceased by her husband Harry Lothstein. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Abigail and Lawrence Frantz of Hopewell; a son and daughter-in-law Leonard Lothstein and Judith Soberman of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren Katie and Alex Lothstein; nieces and nephews; and canine companions Paris and Gracie.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Pennington Road, Ewing Township.
Burial followed at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
The period of mourning is being observed at the Frantz residence.
