Saverio A. LaMantia
Mr. LaMantia, 89, of Freehold, died Feb. 13 at home. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he had lived in the Bronx, N.Y., and Perkinsville, Vt., before moving to Freehold 13 years ago. Mr. LaMantia was a furniture salesman for Dorman Brothers of New York for more than 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. LaMantia was predeceased by his wife, Santina Bruno LaMantia, in 1992. Surviving are two daughters, Bernadine LaMantia of Old Chatham, N.Y., and Ellen Beris of the Clarksburg section of Millstone; and a sister, Fannie Mesito of Cresskill. A memorial service will be held Feb. 17 at Hudson Manor, Freehold, in the community room. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bernadine J. Helen M. Niblett
Mrs. Niblett, 85, of Freehold, died Feb. 11 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Freehold for most of her life and was a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough. She had also attended Rider College (now Rider University), Lawrenceville. Prior to retiring, she was a secretary for Dr. Harvey Weinstein, and had previously been employed in the payroll department at the A&M Karagheusian rug mill, Freehold. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold, and belonged to the Freehold Township Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Niblett was predeceased in 1966 by her husband, Leonard Niblett. Surviving are three nieces, Jean Lackett and Barbara A. Zoppi, both of Howell, and Roberta Nardi of Richmond, Mass.; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many dear friends, including Colleen Cashman of Freehold. The funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Church, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township. George A. Lloyd Jr.
Mr. Lloyd, 74, of Freehold, died Feb. 10 at Shore Meadows, Dover Township. Born in Freehold, he was a lifelong resident and attended the Reformed Church of Freehold. Before retiring 30 years ago, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Freehold, for 27 years. He was also a manager in both the Freehold Little League and the Freehold Babe Ruth Baseball League. Surviving are two sons, George “Kippy” Lloyd III of Tennessee and Jon Lloyd of Brick; two daughters, Sharon Burdge of Millstone and Karen Sakker of Brick; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick 08902.
Frances Flerx
Mrs. Flerx, 80, of Westfield, died Feb. 12 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Marlboro. Born in Plainfield, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Westfield. She was a surgical fitter for Williams Surgical Co., Plainfield. After retiring, she worked part time at Personal Touch, Scotch Plains, and Shepherd’s Nook, a Christian bookstore in Cranford. She was a member of the Hydewood Park Baptist Church, North Plainfield, for more than 50 years, throughout which she served as a deaconess, church librarian, nursery school coordinator and Sunday school secretary, as well as a Pioneer Girls leader. She was also a volunteer for both the Second Westfield Senior Citizens Housing Corp. and Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County, Berkeley Heights. Mrs. Flerx was predeceased by her husband, Christian E. Flerx, as well as a brother, Sam Romano, and a sister, Josephine Van Sant. Surviving are a son, Christian F. Flerx; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene McGrath-McCullion and Joseph McCullion of Manalapan; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Earl Herbst; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Hydewood Park Baptist Church, with the Rev. Miche Moniguet officiating. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
