New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) will host an informational open house about a proposed natural gas pipeline that is planned to run through communities in Monmouth, Ocean and Burlington counties.

From 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 11, members of the public will be able to discuss the company’s Southern Reliability Link with representatives from NJNG at the Upper Elementary School, 46 School House Road, North Hanover Township.

Professionals in the fields of safety, the environment, engineering and pipeline construction will be available to answer questions and provide information.

According to NJNG, which is a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, the Southern Reliability Link is a proposed pipeline that “will provide supply diversity and system resiliency, supporting the safe, reliable distribution of natural gas to more than one million people throughout Monmouth, Ocean and Burlington counties.”

NJNG has filed a petition with the state Board of Public Utilities to propose the construction of the pipeline.

The high-pressure 30-inch-diameter pipeline would run 28 miles from Chesterfield Township in Burlington County to Manchester Township in Ocean County. The route would traverse sections of Upper Freehold Township, Jackson and Plumsted.

According to the petition, the Southern Reliability Link project will connect a natural gas system that serves Monmouth, Ocean and Burlington county customers to a new Transco supply point in Chesterfield. The project will tie into NJNG’s transmission system in Manchester that is near the southern end of the transmission system.

In recent months, some residents of the towns through which the pipeline would run have organized and pressed NJNG to choose a route that is removed from residential areas.
