Elaine Ellerstein
Teacher and artist
Elaine Sklan Ellerstein of Princeton died April 29 at Cornell Weill Medical Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York after a short illness.
She was a special education teacher, award-winning water colorist and later worked in real estate sales.
Born in Pittsburgh, she later moved to the Bronx, N.Y., attending public schools there. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in sociology.
She taught special education at Benjamin Cardozo Junior High School in Rockaway Beach, Queens, N.Y., where she met her future husband.
Following her marriage she moved to the Princeton area where her husband took a senior research position at TRI/Princeton.
She resumed her teaching career in special education and received a master of social work degree at The College of New Jersey. She taught in the Upper Freehold school system.
An award-winning water colorist, she also worked in oils and printing and gave lectures on the history of women artists.
After her husband transferred as a technical director at Morton Chemical Laboratories in Woodstock, Ill., she worked in real estate in Barrington, Ill. She also initiated an art fair in Barrington, her home for nine years. Following her husband’s retirement in 1993, she moved back to Princeton.
She was an avid theater, ballet, concert and museum attendee and was a member of bridge and book clubs and enjoyed worldwide travel.
Daughter of the late William and Ruth Sklan, she is survived by her husband, Stuart, sons Robert, David and Bruce and their families, including seven grandchildren.

Oliver Houghton
Retired contractor, civil engineer
Oliver Van Lieu Houghton of Princeton died Monday. He was 86.
Born in Trenton, he grew up in Lawrence and moved to Princeton upon his marriage.
He was a self-employed building contractor and civil engineer and had his own business in Princeton from 1945 to 1990, when he retired.
He attended Princeton High School, Hun School of Princeton and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in civil engineering.
He served as an officer in the Navy Civil Engineering Corps, 68th Seabee Battalion, during World War II .
He was an active member of The Nassau Club, Trinity Church, the American Legion and Springdale Golf Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf and at the Springdale Breakfast Club later in life.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion Stover Houghton; son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Katherine; daughter and son-in-law Jill and James B. Mudge; brother Jack of Florida; and grandchildren Elizabeth, Sam and Karly.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. today at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton. A reception will immediately follow at Springdale Golf Club.

Barbra C. Bamman
Researcher at university
Barbra C. Bamman died Tuesday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She was 79.
A lifelong resident of Princeton, she was retired from Princeton University where she had been employed for many years as a research technician.
Daughter of the late Barbra Foote Bamman and Edward Becker Bamman Sr., sister of the late Edward Becker Bamman Jr., she is survived by a cousin, Catherine Foote Richardson of Baltimore.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. May 18 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 16 All Saints Road, Princeton.
Private burial was in Trinity All Saints Cemetery.

George T. Algeo III
Carpenter
George Thomas ‘Skip’ Algeo III of Princeton died Tuesday at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 63.
Born and raised in Rahway, he was a Princeton resident the last 15 years.
A carpenter for over 35 years with Carpenters Local 781 of Princeton, he worked on various projects at Princeton University and the surrounding area.
A Vietnam Veteran, he served with the 75th Airborne Ranger Regiment.
He is survived by his mate of 33 years, Charlotte Woodland of Princeton; sons and daughters-in-law James and Karyn Algeo of Reading, Pa. and Jason and Holly Algeo of Edison; sister Harriet Callan; and grandchildren Eric, Bryan and Lyndsey.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
Elizabeth G. Allen
Teacher
LAWRENCE Elizabeth Gilroy Allen died recently. She was 46.
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., to William J. and Elizabeth Zapolski Gilroy, she was raised in Levittown Pa. and was a graduate of Pennsbury High School and Trenton State College.
She lived in Lawrence for many years.
A special education teacher at the Center for Autistic Children in Princeton, she most recently worked as a resource room teacher in the Hopewell Valley Regional School District.
She enjoyed art and music. She found peace and tranquility in nature and had strong spiritual beliefs in earth-based religion.
She is survived by her children, Zachary Allen and Dante DeLucia; life partner Phyllis DeLucia; sister Jane Gilroy; father William Gilroy; and father-in-law Carmen DeLucia.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. May 20 at the Unitarian-Universalist Church at Washington Crossing, 268 Washington Crossing-Pennington Rd., Hopewell Township.

Edward Rochelle
Retired social worker
Edward Rochelle of Princeton died Tuesday at home. He was 68.
Born in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., Mr. Rochelle was a former resident of Dix Hills, N.Y.
He was a social worker in private practice before retiring.
He was a graduate of City College of New York and Adelphia University, where he received a master’s degree in social work.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Copen Rochelle; daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Jerry Fields of West Windsor; son and daughter-in-law Jonathan Rochelle and Carol Lynaugh of Chester; brother David Rochelle of South Setauket, N.Y.; and grandchildren Hailey, Erika, Jenna, Jeremy, Daniel and Lauren.
The funeral was Thursday at Congregation Beth Chaim, West Windsor.
The period of mourning is being observed at the Rochelle residence in Princeton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Howard L. Prezant
Accountant
ROOSEVELT Howard L. Prezant died April 30 at home. He was 80.
Born in New York City, he was a Roosevelt resident many years.
A self-employed accountant, he owned and operated H.L. Prezant & Co. in West Windsor over 55 years and was still in business at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in New York, the Lions Club of West Windsor, National Association of Accountants, the Treasury Card, New Jersey Association of Public Accountants and the IRS Enrolled Agents.
He was an avid sailor and active member of the Anshe Roosevelt Temple in Roosevelt.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Bunkin Prezant, sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey and Elena and Robert and Elise; and grandchildren Stephanie, Jonathan, Jacqueline, Zachary and Rachel.
