The Manville Board of Education members can leave their meetings a little earlier in the evening after the approval of a motion that changes the starting time of meetings from 7:30 to 7:15 p.m.
Introduced by Ken Lessing at the board’s reorganization meeting Monday, the motion originally set the meeting time at 7 p.m. After a tie vote, the board amended the motion, and a majority agreed to start meetings at 7:15 p.m.
But that time didn’t make sense to resident Mark Bradley.
"I think a public meeting staring at the quarter-hour is ridiculous," he said at the meeting.
Monday’s meeting also included swearing in incumbents Gary Coreltyou, Mr. Lessing, and Louis Petzinger Jr. for their three-year terms, and swearing in Michael Impellizeri for his one-year term.
The board also elected officers for the 2007-2008 year. In a unanimous vote, Mr. Petzinger retained his position as board president.
Board members elected Andrew Zangara as vice president, also in a unanimous vote.
Mr. Petzinger will serve as delegate to the Somerset County Educational Services Commission for the school year, and Mr. Imperizelli will serve as alternate. Mr. Cortelyou and Mr. Zangara will serve as delegate and alternate to the New Jersey School Boards Association, respectively.
Business Administrator and Board Secretary Richard D. Reilly will remain the school district’s purchasing agent for the next school year.
The board held its Monday meeting in the school’s faculty office instead of the school library, because of an Internet safety program offered by the Somerset County prosecutor’s office.
