Gov. Jon S. Corzine is recovering from successful inpatient surgery at Cooper University Hospital in Camden to remove excess bone growth around his femur, his press office announced.
The press office released the following details of the surgery, which took place on Monday.
"The condition, known as heterotopic ossification, is not uncommon in patients who have suffered a traumatic femur injury. The excess growth often extends into the surrounding muscle tissue leading to discomfort, diminished range of motion and muscle weakness.
"During the procedure Senate President Codey will serve as acting Governor. The Governor will resume his duties when appropriate after consultation with his medical team. Doctors anticipate that the Governor will spend several days in recovery and early rehabilitation therapy in the hospital."
