Ordinance would ban parking already prohibited

In an effort to match borough regulations with a practice, the Borough Council unanimously approved the introduction of an ordinance Monday concerning prohibited parking on North Fifth Avenue at Roosevelt School.
According to C. Douglas Reina, borough attorney, parking is not allowed on the east side of North Fifth Avenue – from the north curbline of Brooks Boulevard to a point 311 feet north of it – between the school hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The borough’s main parking ordinance, however, does not contain any provision for this.
”There are signs there for when school is in session,” Mr. Reina said. “It’s a safety measure.”
According to Mr. Reina, the prohibition has been in place for some time, but it has never been reflected in the ordinance, and the borough wanted to correct this oversight.
”The amendment is made because the sign and the ordinance say something different,” he said.
Public hearing for the ordinance will be held Nov. 26.
