Truck slams into railroad overpass

Traffic diverted from Main Street

Police are diverting traffic off Main Street after a tractor-trailer carrying hazardous chemicals collided with the Norfolk-Southern Railroad underpass at 4:47 p.m. today.
Though none of the truck’s contents — a chemical solvent known as "hydrazine" — was spilled, the Somerset County Hazardous Materials team is standing by at scene should a spill occur while the accident is cleaned up.
According to police, the tractor-trailer, owned by Interpalco Inc., of Quebec, was traveling South on North Main Street when it smashed its trailer on the underpass bridge. Residents are being detoured to other roads and Main Street and Dukes Parkway, Main Street and Brooks Boulevard, and Main Street and Camplain Road.
Police estimated a two- to three-hour cleanup time, which they said was average for trailer accidents and not affected by the hazardous chemical cargo.
