Animal shelter funds added
The Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution Monday to add an appropriation of $10,000 to be part of the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter into the previously adopted 2008 temporary budget.
This budget, which was approved Dec. 17, originally created appropriations for a total of $3,065,113.41.
The money allows the borough to utilize the services offered by the shelter with Bridgewater and Somerville.
Temp workers approved
In order to assist an increase in work demands and scheduled vacations, the Borough Council unanimously authorized the Department of Public Works to hire three seasonal employees at a rate of $12 per hour.
According to the resolution, seasonal employees are hired each year based on need.
The money to be paid to the hired employees will be appropriated in the 2008 temporary and adopted budgets.
Any potential employees must be approved by the borough administrator before they can be hired.
Municipal Alliance members named
The Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to appoint 11 people to a Municipal Alliance Committee with the purpose of providing services in the prevention of the abuse of alcohol and drugs.
The committee will be in compliance with the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, and will be funded by the Drug Enforcement Demand Reduction, which funds municipalities throughout Somerset County.
The members of the Municipal Alliance Committee were also appointed to the Youth Services Committee, required by the Somerset County Department of Human Services. Their terms on this second committee will end Dec. 31, 2008.
On the committees will be Stephanie Cornelson, parent and co-chairwoman; Karen Lane-Nerod, substance abuse awareness coordinator and co-chairwoman; ABIS Nurse Larissa Mattei; Art Lisciandro, Manville High School teacher; ABIS Principal Dr. James Brunn; Patrolman Craig Jeremiah, Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer; Kevin McHugh, business owner; Jessica Puzio, student; Councilman Ed Komoroski; Kelly Harabin, parent; and a designated member of the Recreation Commission.
Council adds duties for attorney
The Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize the borough administrator to request Borough Attorney Francis P. Linnus to perform additional duties, according to his employment agreement, at a rate of $180 per hour.
The initial resolution to authorize the agreement between Mr. Linnus and the borough was approved Jan. 14.
The additional duties outlined in the agreement include legal research; litigation; preparation of ordinances and contracts; negotiations; and attendance at meetings other than regular council meetings.
