MONTGOMERY — Planning Board Chairman Steven Sacks-Wilner, who was arrested by Montgomery police for failing to pay traffic tickets Jan. 29, said his wife thought she had paid the tickets electronically.
”She thought the transactions had gone through and apparently they hadn’t,” Mr. Sacks-Wilner said.
Warrants for Mr. Sacks-Wilner’s arrest had been issued by the Hillsborough Township and Manville municipal courts for failure to appear in court on multiple motor vehicle summonses. Mr. Sacks-Wilner was arrested at 9:45 a.m. during a motor-vehicle stop. After being taken to police headquarters, he paid the $939 bail for his warrants.
All of the incidents were non-moving traffic violations, with at least some of them having been related to not having the proper credentials during motor-vehicle stops, such as registration and inspection violations, according to Montgomery Police acting Lt. James Curry.
A family situation that stretched for months also played a factor in his failure to get a needed vehicle inspection, Mr. Sacks-Wilner said.
”My focus was on helping out this family member,” he added. “Of course my other focus has always been serving my community.”
Mr. Sacks-Wilner, an attorney, has served as chairman of the Planning Board for several years.
