Pennsylvania man charged with careless driving

A utility pole was snapped in half Thursday afternoon by a utility truck that drifted off Route 29 in Hopewell Township.
Township police Lt. Lance Maloney said the crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m.
A southbound 1990 Ford truck driven by Alvin R. Kenderdine, 68, of Washington Crossing, Pa., went off Route 29 — for an unknown reason — into the shoulder just south of Pleasant Valley Road and hit the pole. The truck came to a stop along a stone wall that runs along the narrow shoulder.
Hopewell Valley Emergency Services responded. Mr. Kenderdine, who declined medical treatment, was charged with careless driving.
Route 29 was shut down in both directions for about 45 minutes, until Mr. Kenderdine’s truck was removed from the road. Traffic was then alternated between north and south while Jersey Central Power & Light personnel went to the scene to make repairs.
NJ DOT erected a detour in which southbound traffic from Lambertville was redirected to Route 518.
Pennington Borough Patrolman Douglas Pinelli and New Jersey State Park Police Officers Greg Lawrence and Tim Kasony assisted at the scene. Hopewell Township Police Officer Christopher Kascik is the investigating officer.
