Motorcyclist dies after accident

A 27-year-old Hillsborough man died Friday from leg and internal injuries sustained when his motorcycle went off New Center Road and crashed into a guardrail and telephone pole the day before.
William Colligan, of Bywater Court, was riding his motorcycle on New Center Road at 4:11 p.m. when the accident occurred.
Mr. Colligan was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, after the accident, where he died the following day.
A lover of art, Mr. Colligan had worked as a tattoo artist for about eight years, his father, Scott, said. He was a self-employed tattoo artist, and a member of the BTU-Brooklyn Tattoo Union.
“He liked meeting a lot of different people from all different walks of life,” Scott Colligan, also of Bywater Court, said.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., William Colligan moved to South Plainfield, then to Hillsborough in 1990.
Mr. Colligan said his son — who graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1998 and studied art at Raritan Valley Community College — was also a “punk rock kind of guy,” who enjoyed music, in addition to his love of drawing.
“William was outgoing and fiercely loyal to his friends,” he said.
According to Hillsborough Police Lt. Bill Geary, the accident itself is still under investigation by the Hillsborough Township Police Department.
Following the incident, New Center Road was closed for about an hour and a half, between Auten Road and Roycefield Road, while an initial investigation was conducted.
Funeral services for Mr. Colligan will be held at the Hillsborough Funeral Home, on Route 206, at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a mass at Mary Mother of God Church, on Triangle Road, at 10 a.m.
Visiting will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Carrier Clinic, in Belle Mead.
