Honors and awards were given at the Senior Awards Program on June 18 (Wednesday)

   Honors and awards were given to 99 members of the Hopewell Valley Central High School Class of 2008 at the Senior Awards Program on June 18 (Wednesday). The listing of awards and their recipients follows:
HONOR AWARDS
   Award by the Hopewell Valley YMCA given in memory of Bud Ruskie to the boy who best represents the ideals of the school — Matthew Martin Birkhofer.

   The Dale W. Kintzel Award, given by his family to a student who plans to further his education in auto mechanics or other vocational technical program — Benjamin Crane.
   The JoAnn Amison Award presented to the student with the Highest Scholastic Average and Proficiency in Marketing Education — Arielle Julia Wolfe.
   An award to the student who has demonstrated the Highest Proficiency in Digital Electronics Engineering — Schuyler David Thompson.
   Award to a student in recognition of outstanding achievement in woodworking — Scott E. Yaros.
   The Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey Award is presented to the student who has shown Outstanding Achievement in Foreign Language Study — Anna Marie Weingart.

   The following students have been chosen as Wellness Students of the Year in recognition of their commitment to the values of sportsmanship, team play, cooperation, and a dedication to the principles of physical education and physical fitness — Bridgette A. Carrier and Andrew M. Scannella.
   An award is given to the student for her Meritorious Contribution to Musical Theater — Sarah Krauss.
   An award to the student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement and excellence in Social Studies — Marissa Nicole Greco.
   The Janet Maloney Award given to the student who has provided the most service to the Association of Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship — Jeffrey Alexander Kyle.
   The Louis Armstrong Award given to the student who has demonstrated the Highest Proficiency in Jazz — John D’Angelo.
   The David Bossart Memorial Award in the amount of $375 is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to continue his/her education in a four year college program and who is pursuing a fine arts career — John Barrasso.
   The Hopewell Valley Central High School German Club presents the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Scholarship in the amount of $250 each to graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to the study of German, and who are continuing with the study of German — John K. Hallinger and Terri Elizabeth Mohacsi.
   Hopewell Valley Testamur was awarded to the following students. These students are eligible to receive a second certificate in addition to their state-endorsed diplomas.    The Saint James Seniors’ Scholarship Committee presents a $1000 scholarship award in recognition of academic achievement and service to the community — Matthew Wagner.
   The German Heritage Council of New Jersey awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who will be continuing with the study of German at the university level — Marissa Nicole Greco.
   The Lawrence Township Education Association Scholarship in the amount of $1500 is awarded to a graduating senior in recognition of academic achievement, activities, and community involvement — Emily E. Keen.
   The Seth Dvorin Memorial Scholarship given in honor of 2nd Lt. Seth Dvorin, who was killed in Iraq during a courageous and heroic action to save the other members in his platoon. This award in the amount of $500 is given to a student, who demonstrates good citizenship and patriotism, genuine concern for his peers, aims for high goals and exemplifies a commitment to share his talents for the good of others — John Barrasso.
LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
   The Lorna Young-Earle Memorial Scholarship Fund administered by the Community Foundation of New Jersey, in honor of Lorna Young-Earle, former Collingswood and Hopewell Valley Central High School Guidance Counselor who dedicated her career to helping her students better themselves and the world they live in. This award celebrates her vision and compassion for young adults and challenges exceptional high school seniors to continue and advance their leadership, compassion and academic achievements. A $2000 scholarship is being awarded — Kathleen Reside.
   The Raymond R. Wagner Memorial Scholarship is based on growth shown during four years of high school, qualities of leadership and dependability, concern for and an unselfish commitment to other students and people in the community, and the value of education. Two $2500 scholarships are being awarded — Alexandra Newman and Anna Marie Weingart.
   An Everyday Hero Scholarship in memory of John Molinelli in the amount of $500 is presented to this graduating senior. This scholarship symbolizes the impact that John had on the lives of students through academic excellence, commitment to teamwork, and compassion for one another — Michael Alexander Valcarcel.
   The James F. Byrnes Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 is presented to the following graduating senior who has been active in the community and plans to pursue a career in education and/or international studies — Dustin Schnoor.
   The Cory Golis/Anchor House Scholarship in the amount of $750 each is presented to students who have surmounted personal challenges and/or are going into a helping field of study such as teaching, nursing, and social work — Lauren A. Apgar and Christopher Didun.
   The Pennington Doctors Abey and Miller Scholarship of $2500 is presented to a student planning a career in a health related field — Emily Frank.
   The Jean Errickson Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2500 each will be offered to one boy and one girl for further academic study — Kristen Birdsey and Marc K. Kilstein.
   The Hopewell Harvest Fair Committee awards two $750 scholarships to students pursuing further education who have shown dedication to their community through service. — Kyle Pagano and Megan Templon.
   The Staff at Hopewell Valley Central High School presents the DDDSP Award to a deserving and promising senior as selected by members of the participating staff. This year’s scholarship award is $1500 — Trevor B. Saunders.
   Janssen Pharmaceutica, L.P. presents a $1000 scholarship to an outstanding young man or woman who is a graduating senior and is pursuing an education in business and is entering a four-year baccalaureate program in the fall — Jahrobi I. White.
   The Amy Kathryn Rankin Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is presented to a graduating senior who intends to enter a four-year school and who has succeeded in high school while overcoming a personal challenge or difficulty — Jeffrey Radice.
   The Hopewell Valley American Legion Post 339 Scholarship of $500 is presented to a graduating senior planning further education and who has attended Hopewell Valley Central High School for at least two years — Jennifer Jin.
   The Hopewell Fire Department and Emergency Medical Unit Scholarship of $500 is awarded to a worthy student going into a vocational, technical, or medical career and who displays a commitment to service in the community — Katelyn L. Painter.
   The Hopewell Township PBA presents two scholarships in the amount of $1000 each to graduating seniors who intend to pursue their education in the field of law enforcement — Marc K. Kilstein and Jordan C. Rowan.
   Hopewell Elementary School PTO offers two scholarships of $500 each to graduating seniors who as former students of Hopewell Elementary School plan to further their academic studies and who have demonstrated a sense of pride and commitment through participating in school and community activities — Emily Frank and Thomas R. Seabrook.
   The Henry Muentener Sr. Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 is awarded to a graduating senior who has shown dedication and commitment to pursuing a career in the industrial arts —Daniel A. Arena.
   The Bear Tavern Parents Association Scholarship of $500 each to graduating seniors who were former students of Bear Tavern School and who plan to further his or her academic studies at the college level. The scholarship is funded by the Bear Tavern Book Fair and is to be used to defray the cost of college textbooks — Kimberly A. Fearnbach and Nora Brooks Kersey.
   ”The Sue Fowler Team” of RE/MAX Premiere Properties presents a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and community involvement — Trevor B. Saunders.
   The Pennington Players-Jack and Mary Rees Memorial Award in the amount of $300 is awarded to a graduating senior who has shown dedication and commitment in the area of performing arts — Sarah Krauss.
   The Hopewell Valley Central High School Parents Organization presents awards of $500 each to graduating seniors who plan to further their academic studies at the collegiate level and who, during four years of high school, have demonstrated qualities of leadership, service, and commitment through their active involvement in the school — Kristen Birdsey, Bridgette A.    The Bernard F. Steinfelt Memorial Scholarship of $250 is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a commitment to his or her community through community service — Rosemary Rarich.
   The Timberlane PTO presents two Book Awards of $500 each to graduating seniors who plan to further their academic studies at the collegiate level and who, during four years of high school, have demonstrated qualities of leadership, service, and commitment through their active involvement in the school — Caitlyn LiMato and Thomas R.    The Hopewell Women’s Club Scholarship of $300 is presented to a worthy student going into vocational, technical, business, or medical career training of less than a bachelor’s degree — Daniel A. Arena.
   The Megan Cranstoun Memorial Scholarship of $1000 is presented to a graduating senior who plans to enter the field of nursing — Emily Frank.
   Princeton Radiology Scholarship program presents a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior planning to pursue a career in the Allied Health/Medical Science field — Lauren A. Apgar.
   The Richard Rodgers and Robert Rodgers III Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200 is offered to a graduating senior planning to enter the field of business — Jeffrey Radice.
   The Hopewell-Pennington Kiwanis Club presents a $500 scholarship award to a graduating senior who as a member of the Kiwanis Club, has displayed a cooperative attitude, and has gone above and beyond as a high school student — Jacqueline Meyer.
   The Hopewell Valley Chorus presents scholarships in the amount of $1000 and $750 to high school seniors planning to pursue music in college — Max J. Orland and Laura Ainsley Mraz.
   The Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders awards two- year scholarships providing $1000 each year to qualified students — Daniel A. Arena.
   The Raymond S. and Adele D. Schulley Memorial Scholarship of $200 is awarded to a member of the graduating class who intends to major in early childhood education at a four year college and has displayed involvement with young children — Kyle Pagano.
   The Adam J. Kay Memorial Scholarship is the amount of $100 is presented to a graduating senior who plans on furthering their education in the field of automotives — Benjamin Crane.
   The Mae K. Burd Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 is being presented to a graduating senior who intends to major in teacher education at a four-year college or university — Amy Dajczak.
   The Pennington Borough Police Association/FOP Lodge 140 awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior who is a Pennington Borough resident and plans to continue his educational endeavors in the Field of Law or Law Enforcement — Matthew G. Dobson.
   The Hopewell Business Association Scholarship of $500 is presented to a member of the senior class who is planning to pursue further education in business education or a related field — Emily E. Keen.
   The New Jersey Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is presented to a graduating senior who is a male descendent of a SAR Patriot Ancestor and demonstrates patriotism, good citizenship and academic achievement — Thomas R. Seabrook.
   The Joanne M. Davison Scholarship sponsored by the Hopewell United Methodist Church is being presented to a graduating senior in the amount of $2000 — Kerri M. Smith.
   The Princeton Elks Lodge #2129 Scholarship in the amount of $500 each is awarded to two graduating seniors who plan to further their education — David J. Nichols and Archana Rachakonda.
AWARDS PREVIOUSLY PRESENTED
   The Hopewell Valley Lions Club Scholarship of $2500 is awarded to a student who has demonstrated a record of service to the outside community and has plans for further vocational or academic study — Manishika Agaskar.
   The Denise Lugar Scholarship Award of $2900 is presented to a varsity level athlete with an excellent academic record who, in the eyes of his/her teammates and coaches, exhibits tremendous team spirit and is a team leader — Bridgette A. Carrier.
   The Ackerman Scholarship is presented to graduating students/athletes who best demonstrate the personal characteristics of former Hopewell Valley administrator and teacher G. Randle Ackerman. This recipient is recognized for outstanding achievement, sportsmanship, and loyalty in interscholastic athletics — Alexandra Newman.
   The NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award — Anna Marie Weingart.
   The ETS Scholar Athlete Award — Lauren N. Sheidler and Brian McCulloh White.
   The Bulldog Booster Club award to the Scholar/Athlete — Marc K. Kilstein.
   The Outstanding Female Athlete Award — Alexandra Newman.
   The Outstanding Male Athlete Award — George Saliba.
   The United States Marine Corps Award — Christian A. Baumbach.
   The United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award — Bridgette A. Carrier and Jeffrey A. DeLucca.
   Colonial Valley Conference Sportsmanship Awards were presented to the following students — Kyle Pagano and Michael Alexander Valcarcel.
   The Women in Sports Day Award — Arielle Julia Wolfe.
   The Parade Committee of Miss St. Patrick’s Day 2008 presented a $1,000 scholarship to the following graduating senior for her academic achievement, involvement in the community, and interest in her Irish heritage — Laura Ainsley Mraz.
   The Comcast Foundation’s Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program presents a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a commitment to community service, academics, positive attitude and leadership — Marissa Nicole Greco.
   The Toll Gate Grammar School PTO Book Awards of $500 are presented to former Toll Gate Grammar School students who have demonstrated a commitment to school and community life and are planning to continue their academic studies — Laura Ainsley Mraz and Mario Quick Russo.
   The Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance Youth Leadership Award presents two scholarships of $500 to graduating seniors who plan to continue their education at the collegiate level. These recipients exemplify leadership and commitment to alcohol and drug education and prevention in their school and community — Anthony K. Gibbons Jr. and Kathleen Reside.
   An Eden Institute Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is awarded to the following graduating senior, in order to generate through education and support, a respect for the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities and those with autism in particular — Meghan E. Compton.
   Career Development Awards Consortium presents a $1000 scholarship to the following student in recognition of academic achievement and work experience — Nicholas R. Crate.
   The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General David Forman – Penelope Hart Chapter awards this graduating senior First Place Chapter, First Place State, First Place Eastern Division, and Second Place in the Nation in the Postage Stamp competition of 2008 — Laura Kocubinski.

   The League of Women Voters of Hopewell Valley presents a $500 scholarship award to the following graduating senior who has demonstrated a commitment to community service through his active volunteer work and promise of continuing involvement — Kathleen Reside.
   The Sons and Daughters of Erin presented a $250 scholarship to the following graduating senior — Laura Ainsley Mraz.
   The Eric L. Toub Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1000 is awarded to a student pursuing a career in a technical field who exhibits the qualities of thoughtfulness and helping others — Nicholas R. Crate.
   The Hopewell Valley Central High School Music and Theatre Parents Association presented four $500 scholarships to graduating seniors who have demonstrated proficiency, leadership, and service in our four performing arts programs — Jennifer Jin (Orchestra), Laura Ainsley Mraz (Band), Emily Kline Ottinger (Choir) and Boris Van Der Ree (Theatre).
   The McGuire Officers’ Spouses’ Club presents a $750 scholarship award to a qualified graduating senior — Terri Elizabeth Mohacsi.
