Colts, Pintos beat Bound Brook

   Despite sputtering on both sides of the ball, the Manville Colts posted an 18-0 shutout victory over Bound Brook Sunday at Gerber Field.
   Matias Gualtieri touched the ball twice, once on an interception with a 29-yard return and the next on a 50-yard run for a touchdown. Also offensively, Altaron Robinson had a 54-yard TD run around end.
   LJ Abner picked up 19 yards and scored the team’s other touchdown.
   Other yards were gained by Joey Veglatte (17 yards) and a surprise effort from Iziah Morgan, who had 25 yards up the middle carrying players for extra yards.
   This weeks captains, Abner and Marc Hagan, proved worthy of the task. Abner had four tackles to go with his touchdown, while Hagan showed good blocking on offense in addition to making seven tackles on defense.
   Veglatte was next in tackles with six, including a 20-yard sack and a fumble recovery. Others who made multiple tackles were Andre Heridia, Jake Caswell, Morgan, Gualtieri, Robinson and Jake Babich.
   Other contributors to the game were Mike Salvatore, Luis Monterroso, Mergim Berisha (with a big hit), Jonathan Rizk, Nick Harenza, Angelo Locham, Sergio Morro and Arber Berisha.
Pintos notch
one-point victory
The Manville Pintos defeated Bound Brook by a 7-6 score Sunday for their second win in a row.
   Manville gave up a kick return for a touchdown but stopped the extra point. The defense stiffened to hold Bound Brook the whole game. The was great blocking and tackling by the whole team with Kodey Kemig, Jeffery Alpizar and Dominique Saloy making the most plays.
   The Pintos held tough all day on the defense, which was coached by Dave Rubin.
   Manville scored on a 40-yard pass called by offensive coach Jeff Ader from Anthony Zuhone to Steven Kafka for a touchdown. Kyle Puza ran it up the middle for the extra point.
   Bound Brook held tough but Manville drove the ball well all day with Max Miller, Tristan Jamie and Puza carrying and killing the clock.
   The Pintos will be practicing hard this week to prepare for St.Cecelia’s in the team’s next game on the road this weekend. All the Pintos and the coaches would like to thank all the parents and friends for coming to the games and cheering on the team.
