LAWRENCE: ‘Shakesfest’ now on stage at the high school

The LHS Theater Company will perform its fall drama, “Shakesfest,” tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Lawrence High School auditorium
Shakesfest is made up of a pair of spoofs on Shakespearean plays.
One of the two plays answers the question, “What would happen if Dr. Seuss told the story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’?” The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet features Seuss characters re-enacting the story of Romeo and Juliet in a Seuss-like fashion.
The second play is entitled “The Rules of Comedy.”
The characters in the play describe standard comic practices, such as pies in faces, and then ‘apply’ them to the tragedy of Hamlet. The result is a messy, crazy combination of Shakespeare and slapstick silliness.
The plays are directed by LHS Theater Director Lorie Baldwin and feature over 20 actors and actresses.
Shakesfest is a night of theater that is appropriate for all ages. Tickets are available in advance for $6. Advance ticket forms are available in the Lawrence High School main office. Tickets are also available at the door before the performances for $8.
