Timmy’s Tour de Shore 2008, a bicycle ride to raise awareness and money for pediatric brain tumor research, is slated for Oct. 12 at Fort Hancock’s Gateway National Park on Sandy Hook.
The event, which is sponsored by Epic Advertising of New York City, includes a 2- or an 8-mile Fun Ride on Sandy Hook, or a 23-mile Challenge Ride from Fort Hancock to Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch and back.
The all-day event, which includes a breakfast and light lunch provided by Ross’ Dockside Restaurant in Sea Bright, will receive volunteer assistance from the New Jersey State Police, local Boy Scouts of America, students from Middletown South High School, several Monmouth County first aid squads and nearly 100 local volunteers.
Sibling Rivalry, a Middletown-based teen band, and The Alert, a Manalapanbased teen band, will be performing during the day. Featured entertainment also includes a bounce house, a clown, balloon artistry and face painting.
Last year’s Tour de Shore, which was created in memory of 10-year-old Timothy Pauxtis of Middletown, drew more than 500 riders and raised more than $70,000.
All money raised will be awarded to the Neuro-Oncology Department at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where Timmy was treated for brain cancer in 2004 and 2005. Riders are currently being sought. To register, make a donation or seek information, visit www.tourdeshore.org or call Jay at 732-233-9841.
