Sean W. Pfeiffer of West Amwell
Thank you for your recent article regarding West Amwell Township and Hunterdon Land Trust Alliance signing a contract to preserve a 130-acre farm owned by Toll Brothers on the south side of Route 179.
While there is still a lot of work to be done to complete the process of preserving this farm, I would to take this opportunity to reiterate my thanks to those who have contributed toward this effort so far:
• HLTA, in particular Kate Buttolph and Margaret Waldock, for their efforts toward receiving an $825,000 State Agriculture Development Committee grant. Without HLTA’s invaluable assistance and efforts, this project would not have been possible in its current form.
• Toll Brothers for understanding the state funding situation, for agreeing to preserve their land at a discount to the appraised value and for working with the township and HLTA toward that end.
• The staff at the SADC, in particular Dan Knox and Gary Pohorely, for their ongoing assistance and efforts.
• Our attorney, Sharon Dragan, for her efforts in working through 14 contract drafts with Toll Brothers’ attorney.
• Bill Millette, Rick Steffey and Kevin Richardson from the Hunterdon County Planning Board, who have been consulted during this process.
• Catherine Drake from New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Acres for her input on the project.
• The West Amwell Township Committee for its support of the project and, in particular, Ron Shapella for his efforts to eliminate a potential sewer service area, which helped this project come to fruition.
• The Open Space Committee for its support and assistance and, in particular, Pete Hess for his work in preparing maps for the project.
