Tommaso Iadevaia, 86, died Saturday, Dec. 13, at his home in Ellicott City, Md.
Mr. Iadevaia was born in Durazzano, Benevento, Italy, came to the U.S. in 1951, and settled in South River, where he lived for six years before moving to Monroe in 1957, where he spent most of his life before moving to Naples, Fla., in 1993 and finally to Ellicott City, Md. in 2006. He served in the Italian Federal Police for three years and was the founder and owner of Tom Iadevaia & Son Contracting Co., and Tom Iadevaia & Son Nursery in Monroe, which he operated for 37 years before his retirement in 1993. He was a former member and chairman of the South River Italian American Club for many years and was a former parishioner of St. James the Less R.C. Church, Jamesburg, and St. Elizabeth’s R.C. Church, Naples, Fla.
His wife, Antoinetta (Posillco) Iadevaia, died in October, and his son, Michael Iadevaia, in 1981. He is survived by his son, Vincent and his wife, Anna, of Monroe; his daughter, Rosa Thierer and her husband, Andrew, of Ellicott City, Md.; his daughter-in-law, Rosa Iadevaia; three brothers, Vincent Iadevaia and his wife, Antonietta, of South River, the Rev. Antonio Iadevaia of Italy, and John Iadevaia and his wife, Angelina, of East Brunswick; two sisters, Rose Stasi of Old Bridge, and Mary Pascarella and her husband, Luigi, of East Brunswick; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe, N.J., 08831, 732-521-0555. A funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. at St. James the Less R.C. Church, Jamesburg, followed by Interment in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
