Health seminars big success

Nancy MacKay, health educator
On behalf of the South Brunswick Township Health Department, I would like to extend our thanks to the many vendors and volunteers who assisted us with our fall activities. We held, seven Flu and Pneumonia Clinics at various times and locations in October, November, and December. We administered 1,051 flu vaccines (including 93 given to pediatric patients) and 44 pneumonia vaccines.
Our Health Screening and Prevention Fair offered the following screenings to the residents of South Brunswick Township: hearing screening (Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital), blood chemistry and lipid profile (Accumed Lab), balance screening (Jersey Physical Therapy), blood pressure screening, “Ask the Doctor” and “Ask the Nutritionist” (University Medical Center at Princeton), body fat analysis (Princeton Wellness and Fitness Center), oral cancer screening (Doctors of Dental Medicine), foot and ankle screening (Dr. Clarke Farrell), osteoporosis screening (St. Peter’s University Hospital), “Ask the Pharmacist” (Stop & Shop Pharmacy) and “Vision Screening” (South Brunswick Lions Club). In addition, health and wellness information was provided by Mind and Body (Ed Peloquin), Spa Kidz, Speeney Chiropractics, EPIC, and Assets.
We could not have provided these services without the help of many committed residents of South Brunswick Township who volunteered in a variety of capacities at these events. It is encouraging to see such volunteerism. It does make a difference.
