Christy Stier, HBPP Children’s Committee Coordinator
The children of Hopewell Elementary are working really hard to help raise money for two new playgrounds to be built in “Gazebo Park” and at the historic railroad station. Twenty kids have volunteered to be a part of the “Children’s Committee”—a group of dedicated students who spend two afternoons a month writing thank you notes, learning about what is going on with the playgrounds, relaying news to their fellow classmates (including writing a soon-to-be released newsletter), and brainstorming new fundraising ideas.
One of their creative ideas is now being implemented. The kids have installed “Pennies for our Playgrounds” jars near cash registers at school and around town. These canisters are in place (or will be soon) at the Hopewell Elementary cafeteria, Michael’s Deli on East Broad Street, the Hopewell Pharmacy and at PNC Bank also on Broad Street. If your business is interested in having one, please e-mail us at [email protected]. We would love to arrange it!
Some of the recent efforts by the Children’s Committee include handing out flyers and signing up volunteers outside Pennington Market where they received over $400 in donations on one Saturday! In late September, they held a successful bake sale during the Design Day celebration. Additionally, they helped serve refreshments at a couple of our other events.
The Hopewell Borough Playground Project committee is grateful to the Children’s Committee for all of their hard work and dedication. Their enthusiasm is inspiring! We also feel strongly it can’t be done without the KIDS! So please help us to support their fundraiser, and drop some pennies (or quarters) in the jars when you can.
