In preparation for 2009, the Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution Dec. 15 to adopt a temporary budget at a total of $3,134,480.
This is a 0.5 percent increase from the beginning 2008 temporary budget, which was set at $3,117,263.63, and covers the first 25 percent of the 2009 budget, according to Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke. The borough’s full budget will not be introduced until around March.
The temporary budget can be tapped into beginning Jan. 1. Because the 2009 reorganization meeting is not until Jan. 3, Mr. Garwacke said, the borough needed to plan for funds to be used at the start of the year, especially to account for a payday during the first week of the year.
The temporary budget includes appropriations for legal services, emergency management services, property maintenance, recreation, the Public Works Department, Planning Board, zoning commission, utilities, municipal court, the public library and other services necessary in town.
The resolution also appropriates $1 million in the current fund, half of which will be used for bond principal and half for bond interest.
In addition, the resolution appropriates $645,000 for sewer utility, including salaries, treatment costs and other expenses.
