Slice turkey efficiently

Norm Goldman, Hopewell Township
Thomas Butler, the interim school superintendent, reminds me of the loveable uncle who volunteers to carve the Thanksgiving turkey.
Only major problem: In last week’s headline story “Schools head wasn’t surprised by state’s spending message,” our loveable uncle didn’t carve the bird. He merely described a process of reviewing existing budget lines — which is normally done anyway every year in preparation for a new forthcoming budget.
To use the cliche: “Show me the money.” Rhetoric was all we got without any indication of where belt-tightening was to take place for the current year and obviously making a major impact, hopefully, on the developing budget for next year.
And keep in mind that just a few weeks ago, he estimated vaguely what it would take to stay within the state cap and at the same time raise our taxes.
Dr. Butler may be “interim,” but we do expect our loveable uncle to slice the turkey efficiently without any waste and to let us know what he is passing to us on our fiscal plate.
