Camplain Volunteer Fire Company no. 2 is sponsoring a fundraising bus trip to the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races at Darlington Raceway. The trip will depart Manville on May 7, returning on May 10th. The trip includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation from Manville; one night lodging at the Hampton Inn in Fredericksburg, Va.; two nights lodging at the Hampton Inn in Fayetteville, N.C.; transportation to and from the race track and race tickets. Reunion plans for Manville High School 1959 classmates. Plans are underway to celebrate a 50th class reunion in 2009. Organizers are in the process of trying to locate and contact all class members. Manville Youth Athletic League registration for the spring season at Gerber Field will continue today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 14.
Any youths who will be 7–15 years old on April 30, or 6-years-old by July 31, living in or attending school in Manville is eligible. To register, bring a copy of birth certificate; registration fee of $65 check or cash (plus $15 for each additional child); $24 cash or check for the candy fundraiser; and a $100 work bond check posted dated July 31, 2009 (returned after the season is over and the bond is fulfilled.) The Manville High School PTSA will host a Valentine’s Day dinner and dance at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post to benefit Project Graduation, an event providing a drug and alcohol-free graduation celebration for graduating high school seniors. Tickets are $45 per couple, or $25 for singles, which includes a buffet dinner, dancing, and DJ music. The Somerset Valley Players will hold open auditions for “Godspell” at 2 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday. Performance dates are April 17- May 10. Registration for Manville Recreation Department spring teams begins at 2 p.m. today. Programs and fees are: kindergarten soccer on Saturday mornings ($20); first through eighth-grade traveling soccer teams ($35); instructional baseball for 4- to 6-year-olds ($20); kindergarten through second grade instructional softball ($20); and third- through fifth-, and sixth- through eighth-grade traveling softball ($35). Registrations will be held at the recreation trailer on North Eighth Avenue (next to Fire Co. no. 3) 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Feb. 24; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Weston School.

Duke Farms will host a next waterfowl and raptor field trip on the Duke Estate grounds with naturalists from the New Jersey Audubon Society from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 21. Immaculata High School Spartan Club will host La Nuit des Vins, A Night of Wines, fundraiser at 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Feb. 21 to benefit the club. The Rotary Club of Hillsborough will sponsor a Valentines Dance 6 – 11 p.m. Feb. 28 at Mary Mother of God Church, 157 South Triangle Road. The dance will feature a DJ playing “Oldies” to today’s hits; sandwiches and other refreshments, including beer, wine, coffee and desert. Manville Reformed Church, South 5th Avenue and Pope Street in Manville, will hold a Hungarian Dinner at noon March 15. The dinner will include homemade chicken soup, chicken paprikas with dumplings, stuffed cabbage, cucumber salad, desert, coffee and tea. The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (JCC) will be hosting its 10th Annual Comedy Night featuring Joe Larson, Chris Monty and Linda Belt at 8 p.m. March 14 at the JCC, 775 Talamini Road in Bridgewater. Registration for 4-H TOPS Camp, a week-long day camp program sponsored by Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County, is underway. The camp is scheduled for June 29 to July 2, and is open to youth who have completed grades 1 through 6 by June 2009. Camp will be held at the Ted Blum 4-H Center on Milltown Road in Bridgewater. Registration fee is $200 until March 31; $250 beginning April 1. Full and partial scholarships are available to those who qualify.
