The scenic beauty of Hillsborough and Montgomery Township will set the stage for a new road race to benefit The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center. The Steeplechase Spring Classic on Sunday, May 17 will offer the region’s only 25K race along with a 5K race and 1-mile “Fun Walk” for families.
“In addition to raising funds for The Steeplechase Cancer Center, we hope the Steeplechase Spring Classic increases awareness of the important link between exercise and good health,” says event founder and running enthusiast Cynthia Lee, MD, a board-certified surgeon at Somerset Medical Center who specializes in breast cancer surgery and advanced laparoscopic procedures. “Exercise has been shown to prevent cancer and help cancer patients live longer. Running – or walking – on the rural roads of Somerset County on a beautiful spring day is a great way to start your quest for a healthier lifestyle.”
The event is sponsored by Physicians for the Cure, a group of Somerset Medical Center physicians dedicated to advancing cancer care.
The race course begins and ends at Amsterdam Elementary School in Hillsborough. The 25K race begins at 8 a.m. followed by the 5K race at 10:30 a.m. and the Fun Walk at 10:45 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine.
Registration for individuals is $75 for the 25K run, $35 for the 5K run and $30 for the Fun Walk. Special family rates for up to four family members are $120 for the 5K run and $100 for the Fun Walk.
