Fitness and Fun Planned for New Egypt Day
Main Street New Egypt and the Neighborhood Preservation Programs of Plumsted Township are hosting the annual New Egypt Day festival on Saturday, May 16, 2009.
New Egypt Day is an outdoor street festival in downtown New Egypt on Front Street (which runs parallel to Main Street) and at Oakford Lake Park. This year’s theme is Fun and Fitness. There will be free fitness classes going on throughout the day. Obstacle courses and fitness games will be available for both children and adults. Free inflatables and face painting for the kids, fishing, canoe rides, live music and more will be available throughout the day! There will also be an AMAZING RACE-NEW EGYPT taking place. Watch for more information about how to register.
There will be a great mix of live music for the festival! Briz brings a mix of folk, rock, country and blues to the festival. He has been compared to both Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. Rob Lincoln of CD Review wrote ‚"Briz is a versatile Philadelphia area singer-songwriter who is an excellent live performer with an awesome vocal range.‚" and Steve O’Donahue of Stereo Graffiti Radio said he ‚"reminds me of Neil Young singing Roy Orbison…. he really is that good!‚" Don’t miss your chance to see Briz in New Egypt‚ he’ll be playing at the gazebo at Oakford Lake Park from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Check out Briz online at www.myspace.com/brizsongs
Country music will be playing on Front Street performed by the NJ band Whiskey Girls. They play a mix of both classic and contemporary country throughout the tri-state area. The band plays songs by current artists such as Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Trisha Yearwood, Gretchen Wilson, The Dixie Chicks, as well as songs by Patsy Cline, The Judds, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and more. Check them out at www.myspace.com/whiskeygirlsband
Also at the festival, don’t miss the Y-ART sale being held by the Plumsted Township Council for the Arts. They will be selling everything art… including prints, photographs, music, art books, arts and crafts supplies and much, much more all at yard sale prices. They will be accepting donations at the Welcome Center at 31 Main Street in New Egypt on May 9th from 10 am-12 noon. All profits will benefit the Arts Council.
We are currently looking for vendors, businesses, fitness professionals, and local organizations to participate. Deadline for vendor registration is May 1st. For more information, or if you need an application, contact Lori Parsells, Main Street Special Events Coordinator at 609-758-7461 or email [mailto:[email protected] [email protected]] with your name, phone number and request. Please note that this is a rain or shine event. We hope to see you there!
