A very cool show with a local connection, Sleeping Beauty Wakes – A Fractured Fairy Tale in Concert with GrooveLily, is coming to Princeton. The concert on April 7 at 7:30 PM will be held at the Berlind Theater of The McCarter Theater complex. The complex is located at 91 University Place in Princeton, NJ. Tickets are $15 are available through McCarter’s website http://www.mccarter.org or by calling 609.258.ARTS (-2787).
The concert celebrates the release of an album of music the band wrote for a Deaf West Theatre production, Sleeping Beauty Wakes. Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn not only wrote and performed music in the production, but co-stared in it as well. The production earned a 2007 Ovation Award for Best Musical, and Brendan garnered an Ovation for Best Musical Direction. GrooveLily hasn’t been touring much, so this show is a rare treat. This concert version of this award-winning, family friendly musical is co-written with Tony-award winner Rachel Sheinkin.
One of the band members of GrooveLily, Gene Lewin, is originally from the Princeton area, and he is a Princeton University graduate. The front woman, Valerie Vigoda, is also a Princeton grad and continued to work in the Princeton area after graduation.
