Health care changes are needed

Joan Jennings of Monroe
I am writing because I see a great need for reform and changes in the way our medical system exists currently. Medicare is a government program and my Medicare works very well.
I can’t understand why people believe the errors that say healthcare reform is socialized medicine and will lead to rationed care. That is so not true. Medicare is not socialized medicine. A government option, like Medicare, will provide choice as well as opportunity. Healthcare reform will strengthen not hurt Medicare and will protect our benefits ensuring that we can choose our doctors. We will never have to take the government option so why all the nonsense about it. If we have good insurance we will keep it and if we have a better choice we will be able to take it, probably bringing down costs for all of us.
Under healthcare reform I will make any decision regarding my health and so can you along with your family and your doctor. The government will not make your medical decisions and anyone who says differently is a liar.
We can’t afford not to fix healthcare because what we now have is a disaster. Hospitals are closing because they have to take uninsured people and get no reimbursement. If more of us are insured that will not happen and hospitals will not have to close. We need a government options of that healthcare and Medicare will be there for our children and grandchildren.
