TRENTON A former technology teacher at Pond Road Middle School in Robbinsville was sentenced this week to a suspended four-year sentence for sending live images of himself masturbating over a Web cam to a teenaged girl from the township.
Daniel P. Corvino, 33, of Ewing, also was ordered Monday to forfeit his teaching credentials and is subject to lifetime parole supervision under the terms of his plea agreement, according to Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the Mercer County prosecutor’s office.
The former seventh- and eighth-grade teacher must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, continue mental health treatment, and is restricted from all social networking sites, according to Ms. DeBlasio. And he must make restitution in the amount of $1,069 for a computer to replace the one seized from the victim for evidentiary purposes, Ms. DeBlasio said.
Although Mr. Corvino was charged in connection with one victim, Superior Court Judge Darlene Pereksta said there were two other victims, Ms. DeBlasio confirmed. He must have no contact with any of the victims under the terms of his sentence.
If Mr. Corvino violates any of the conditions of his sentence, he would be sent to prison for the agreed-upon four years, Ms. DeBlasio added.
Mr. Corvino pleaded guilty March 3 to endangering the welfare of a child in connection with his February 2008 arrest. He was indicted last year on charges of official misconduct, aggravated criminal sexual contact and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Mr. Corvino sent pictures of himself touching his genital area to a 14-year-old Robbinsville girl via the Internet using a Web cam on his home computer, law enforcement officials have said.
Two students brought the inappropriate communication to the attention of a teacher after they received instruction at Robbinsville High School on the dangers of Facebook and MySpace, and Mr. Corvino was quickly fired from his teaching position.
Before being hired as a teacher, Mr. Corvino managed New Jersey based hip-hop artist Shawn Livernoche, whose 2001 autobiography, “A Brief History of Rhyme and Bass: Growing Up With Hip-Hop,” details the duo’s party lifestyle and sexual encounters with women and underage girls.
His case was the third of a Robbinsville teacher being arrested in three years.
In 2005, Scott Copperman, a then 35-year-old Robbinsville High School teacher and coach, pleaded guilty to third-degree endangerment of a child after police determined he had kissed a female student and sent her romantic e-mails.
A year later, Daniel Finn Mr. Copperman’s replacement resigned after he was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and serving alcoholic beverages to persons under legal age.
