W.C. Heiser of Matawan and his mother, Mrs. Louis Heiser, were driving home from Keyport, a few nights ago, when the horse got out of the road and ran into the guard railing at the foot of Gas House Hill, about halfway between Matawan and Keyport.
Both the occupants of the wagon were thrown and Mr. Heiser was rendered unconscious. Mrs. Heiser escaped with only a severe shaking-up. The wagon was wrecked. The night was dark and the point where the accident happened is a particularly dark spot.
Jay Thorne, who lives near Holmdel, was held up and robbed of $90 last Friday night, while he was on his way home from Matawan. The highwaymen got away safely with their booty and they have not yet been caught. Three men did the job. Mr. Thorne did not recognize the men, but he got a good look at them and he says he would be able to identify them if he saw them again.
