HILLSBOROUGH: Police chief reminds drivers not to park on snowy streets

Hillsborough Police Chief Paul A. Kaminsky issued a reminder this week that township ordinances prohibit parking on snow-covered streets.
The chief noted “the importance of having a vehicle-free roadway for plowing could not be overstated.”
”This allows for the safety of our township plow operators and for quick, efficient snow removal from the 550-plus miles that must be plowed,” he said. “Plowing on vehicle-free roadways also helps to avoid citizens’ property being damaged by the township vehicles.”
Chief Kaminsky also noted that not having cars parked on the streets allows for proper drainage of melting snow, avoiding water and ice buildup on the roads.
Hillsborough Township Ordinance 143-21 prohibiting parking on all roads covered by snow carries fines up to a $50 fine and allows the township to tow vehicles at the owner’s expense. Signs are posted on all roadways entering Hillsborough Township noting the existence of this ordinance.
Chief Kaminsky asks that all residents and visitors of the township “voluntarily comply with this ordinance so that we all may enjoy a safe winter season.”
