The first major storm of the winter hit the area this weekend, dropping about a foot of snow on the township Saturday night into Sunday.
Township roads were clear Sunday after plows and salt trucks were on the roads throughout the night.
Local officials were pleased at the work done by South Brunswick’s Public Works Department to clear off township roads.
”The guys are still out there working right now,” said Public Affairs Coordinator Ron Schmalz on Monday morning. “I know the mayor and the Township Council were pleased with the work that was done, and I’ve received several e-mails saying what a fine job our Public Works did. There were no major events to report, which is always good.”
The South Brunswick School District scheduled a delayed opening Monday as the township continued to work on making the roads safe for travel.
”We sent the sanders out Saturday afternoon, but we didn’t start plowing until Saturday evening because there has to be a couple of inches of snow on the ground before we start plowing,” Mr. Schmalz said. “We started Saturday evening went through Sunday morning, and they’re still out there working.”
