“Vibrancy and Abundance,” an exhibit of works by John Salvi, Monmouth Beach, and Nova (Steve Nolletti), Eatontown, is currently at the Mitchell Sanborn Gallery in Keyport.
The combination of Nova’s canvases and Salvi’s abstract paper paintings brings two contemporary artists together in celebration of glorious color, witty commentary and a raucous look at who we really are. Painting in very different styles yet using a similar palette of colors, these paintings, like the artists, refuse to be quiet and love breaking all of the rules.
Color and rhythm shape the abstract images in Salvi’s large works on paper. Vibrant in their saturated color palette and abundant and arresting in their size, the paintings are abstract expressions of exuberance with a disregard for image boundaries of the gallery wall.
Nova has mastered the interpretation of contemporary life. His style is rash and pop-inspired, eccentric Americana. With bright colors and lively patterns, he creates compositions that give pause to thought and raise questions.
The show runs through Oct. 22 at Mitchell Sanborn Gallery, 46 W. Front St. The gallery is open Thursdays from 5-7 p.m., and weekends, noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call (732.) 888.0048 or visit www.mitchellsanborngallery.com.
