A Brennan Way resident was charged Wednesday with a drug offense after township police were notified June 4 of an intercepted international package containing the anabolic steroid Strombaject.
Scott Jacquish, 32, was charged with third degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance after police executed a search warrant at his residence because the package was supposed to be delivered to his home.
According to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Peter DeMarco, federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement with the Department of Homeland Security notified Hillsborough police because it had intercepted an international package that was addressed to Mr. Jacquish, and contained the anabolic steroid. A joint investigation with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office was initiated, Mr. DeMarco said, after the package was turned over to Hillsborough police.
On Wednesday, Mr. DeMarco said, an undercover operation was initiated with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hillsborough Township Police Department, as well as federal agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Postal Inspectors and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
A search warrant was executed on Mr. Jacquish’s residence, Mr. DeMarco said, and the defendant was arrested there.
Flemington resident David Reynolds, 31, was charged with third degree attempt to possess a controlled dangerous substance after investigators questioned him at his home about the incident, although the prosecutor’s office did not detail how the two charges were connected.
Both Mr. Jacquish and Mr. Reynolds were processed and released on their own recognizance.
