The Florence Township Police Department is bringing back its safe bicycling program this summer, promoting the use of bicycle helmets by juveniles. Florence has been promoting the use of helmets since the law’s inception in 1992. Police officers will be giving coupons for ice cream/treats that are redeemable at local establishments, to those juveniles who are wearing a bicycle helmet while biking, roller/inline skating or skateboarding.
Florence Township mayor and council have annually provided funding for bicycle helmets to be provided to those families who need assistance to enable their children to have a helmet. This year they also have funded the reward program to enable police officers to recognize youths who are wearing helmets in accordance with the law and to encourage other youths to wear helmets for their safety.
