NOTED AUTHOR AND PHYSICIAN TO SPEAK AT EAST HANOVER LIBRARY

By Irene Maslowski
Join the East Hanover Public Library on Wednesday, April 20, at 7:00 p.m., when noted speaker, author, and New Jersey physician, Yvonne S. Thornton, M.D., will introduce her new book, Something To Prove n A Daughter’s Journey to Fulfill a Father’s Legacy.
Thornton’s first book titled, The Ditch Digger’s Daughters, was a national best seller and was featured on Oprah, The Today Show, and Good Morning America.
In her latest book, Dr. Thornton tells the story of her amazing father who moved his wife and daughters from the tenements in Harlem to a small house in New Jersey that he built with his own hands from materials purchased on a ditchdigger’s salary. Donald Thornton cherished a mighty dream n that all of his daughters would become medical doctors, respected professionals in white coats and “scripperscrappers” (stethoscopes) n a designation he believed would shield them from the pernicious specter of prejudice.
The program is free-of-charge but reservations are required. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. To reserve, call 973-428-3075. The East Hanover Public Library is located at 415 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J.
