The Princeton High School Class of 2011 became official as 340 students from Princeton and Cranbury graduated on Tuesday evening.
”We entered through these tower doors four whole years ago, timid and unsure of what lay ahead; we were young, we were awkward, we were children,” said Daniel Taub, class president. “But today we depart not simply ready to take on the world, but instead depart ready to change the world. We emerge with paper manifestations of what we already know — we are grown up adults. It seems weird to mull that word over and consider it, much less to speak it.”
Adulthood and the future was a topic of thought for many graduates.
”What’s great about being an adult is finding the answers to your own questions,” said Amanda Phelan, a senior who addressed the class. “We have grown together as a class and will continue to do so long after our matriculation. As we continue to learn and grow we can not forget it is our job as members of this school and the world community to create the future.”
The Class of 2011, the 82nd class to walk through the tower doors, also remembered two students who were no longer with them by wearing two gold stars on their gowns and dedicating a bench in front of the school in their honor.
As the names of the graduates were called, proud parents and families clapped, blew air horns and noisemakers and snapped endless amounts of photos.
”The knowledge and the material stuff of our world can mean very little without true treasures,” said Judy Wilson, superintendent of schools. “You’ve discovered what many of those treasures are already so I congratulate you tonight with great pride and the very best of wishes.”
Graduates entered to “Pomp and Circumstance” and exited to the “Triumphal March” from “Aida” played by the Princeton High School Orchestra. Two student choirs, “Around Eight” and the “Cat’s Meow,” sang during the ceremony.
