A total of 1,777 Lehigh University students were awarded bachelor, master or doctoral degrees at 143rd commencement ceremonies in Bethlehem, Pa., on May 23.
Katherine Glass-Hardenbergh of Hillsborough graduated summa cum laude with two bachelor of science degrees. One was awarded from Lehigh’s P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science for Information and Systems Engineering, highest honors; the other was awarded from the College of Business and Economics for Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) in finance, highest honors.
Katherine graduated with distinction receiving IBE’s Top Scholar Award. She was an Honors Eckardt Scholar all four years. She was awarded the Undergraduate Merit Award of the Lehigh University Alumni Association recognizing character, personality, scholarship, and participation in extracurricular activities, representing the highest traditions of Lehigh University. She was awarded the Bosey Reiter Leadership Cup for her contributions to the university.
A scholar selected for participation in the Martindale Center for the Study of Private Enterprise, Katherine travelled to Iceland as part of a team researching the causes of Iceland’s 2008 economic collapse and published an article in Lehigh’s “Journal of Perspectives on Business and Economics.” She presented research at the 2011 Freed Undergraduate Research Symposium.
She was selected as a P.C. Rossin Jr. Fellow; served the community four years as part of Leadership Lehigh; tutored students as part of the Center for Academic Success; was an orientation leader, and is a member of the Phi Sigma Pi national honor fraternity.Katherine will join the sales and trading department of the Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.
She is the daughter of Diane and John Glass-Hardenbergh.

Ellen Kullman, the DuPont chair and CEO, who was named one of the mostpowerful women in the country by both Forbes and Fortune magazines,delivered the commencement address.
Christine Perna, a student at Rutgers University’s New Brunswick/Piscataway campus, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry, minor in psychology and received her certification from the American Chemical Society.
She is employed by Johnson & Johnson, Skillman, in its consumer products area.
Christine Diana of Hillsborough graduated maxima cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science from LaSalle University in Philadelphia on May 15.
Three local residents received undergraduate degrees from Villanova (Pa.) University at the commencement ceremony on May 15 in Villanova Stadium. They are Ryan Bennett, Lisa Cannellos and Christopher Plaskon.
Hillsborough residents were among the approximately 3,700 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees from Boston College at the 135th commencement exercises, held May 23 in Alumni Stadium on campus in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Meghan Francfort, a bachelor of science degree from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management with a major in finance and accounting.
Timothy Machat, a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences with a major in economics and philosophy.
Kenji Horiguchi, a bachelor of science degree from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management with a major in management and leadership.
Alexander Miska, cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree from the College of Arts and Sciences with a major in history.
Cara Christ, summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree from the Carolyn A. and Peter S. Lynch School of Education with a major in human development and communication.
Commencement speaker was U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, who received an honorary doctor of public administration degree.
